Vitamin D3 is often referred to as the sunshine vitamin in reference to the skin’s ability to produce it from sunlight and ultraviolet light. As little as 15 minutes spent in the sun can generate up to 5000IU of vitamin D.

WHY WE ENCAPSULATE IN OLIVE OIL

Vitamin D3 is a fat-soluble compound, meaning it must be consumed with a fat source to absorb it efficiently. Taking vitamin D3 supplements with fatty foods can help achieve this, but research shows that taking vitamin D3 with an oil as a carrier vehicle provides superior absorption. Elevated Healing has selected olive oil to ensure maximum vitamin D3 uptake. Other oils, such as corn, safflower, or soybean oil, are poor carriers for several reasons. For example, corn and soybean oil are only fatty structures, whereas olive oil is a true fat. Unlike other oils, olive oil has a synergy with vitamin D3 that reduces inflammation and oxidative stress. Additionally, allergies to olive oil are rare, unlike soy.

VITAMIN D FOR THE IMMUNE SYSTEM

Vitamin D3 supports our immune function in several ways. It’s an immunoregulator that activates the body’s natural defences against pathogens and aid in eliminating toxins. It defends against invading pathogens by enhancing T-cell function. Vitamin D3 also stimulates the macrophages that surround and destroy pathogens. Insufficient vitamin D3 impairs immune function and increases the likelihood of developing illnesses or infectious diseases. Individuals with vitamin D3 deficiencies are particularly at risk of developing respiratory illnesses, as insufficient vitamin D3 in particular impairs lung function.

CANCER PREVENTION

Vitamin D has shown anti-cancer effects in vitro and in vivo for almost all cancer types. Like vitamin C, it targets the mitochondria by improving metabolism and regulating mitochondrial respiration. Vitamin D can also target cancer stem cells  and metastases , and inhibit glycolysis and glutaminolysis pathways. It has been observed that daily vitamin D supplementation can reduce total cancer mortality, but this has not been observed for infrequent large bolus doses. Cancer patients are often deficient in vitamin D and they can benefit from effective therapy with minimal risk.

VITAMIN D FOR STRONG TEETH AND BONES

One of Vitamin D3’s most important function include the formation and maintenance of strong bones, cartilage, and teeth. Adequate absorption of calcium and phosphorous are essential for healthy teeth and bones. Vitamin D3 enhances the absorption of these compounds in the small intestines. It also regulates the rate of bone turnover and calcium release. Additionally, research shows vitamin D3 decreases the likelihood of fractures from falls in the elderly population.

VITAMIN D3 DEFICIENCY SYMPTOMS

Adults deficient in Vitamin D3 may suffer from a condition known as osteomalacia. Vitamin D 3deficiencies also increase the risk of developing osteoporosis, which weakens bones and increases the probability of bone fractures.
